We’ve been working really hard and wanted to share some exciting updates on our Junior Grading process.
Our goal here is to help your child’s journey become even more rewarding and meaningful.
From today, we’re introducing skill assessments alongside the existing 20-class attendance criteria. To earn their next belt, students will need to demonstrate progress in key skills. This will be measured using a new three-star system:
⭐️ = 知る (Shiru) – To Know: Understanding the basics of a skill.
⭐️⭐️ = 分かる (Wakaru) – To Understand: Gaining deeper comprehension.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ = できる (Dekiru) – To Do: Applying the skill consistently through effort.
Your child will progress when they’ve achieved three stars for all required skills and met the 20-class attendance goal. This ensures they’re not just participating but also growing in confidence, competence, and understanding.
These changes will apply to all students from White Belt (Mu Mon) to Orange-Black Belt (9th Mon)
Why This Matters
This change is designed to:
Build stronger foundations: Students won’t just learn techniques—they’ll understand them deeply and use them effectively.
Promote effort and discipline: By earning stars, your child will see how persistence and hard work lead to success.
Celebrate progress: Each star earned is a mini-victory, helping to keep them motivated and engaged.
How You Can Support Your Child
We know that change can sometimes feel a little overwhelming, so here are some tips for explaining this to your child:
Focus on growth: Let them know this system is about getting better every day, not rushing to the next belt.
Celebrate effort: Encourage them to feel proud of their achievments, knowing it’s a sign of their hard work.
Be positive: Remind them that learning new skills takes time and that every achievement is a step closer to their goal.
Where To Look
You can view the skill requirements and progress for your current grade by logging into your members account. Or by using the Gymdesk App which is available on both the iPhone and Android app stores.
You’ll see skill requirements in the Attendance tab under Skills or in the Promotions tab.
Looking Ahead
We’re confident that these changes will make grading process even more meaningful for your child. It’s not just about earning belts—it’s about becoming more skilled, confident, and resilient in everything they do!
